My New Blog
July 11, 2008 by studenttravelerI’m back :)
July 9, 2008 by studenttravelerIt’s officially been one month since I have been back in Cali! I have been having a hard time adjusting, but starting my summer job has helped get me into the swing of things. I knew that I would have reverse culture shock coming back to California, but I didn’t really know what it would feel like. I have missed the lifestyle in Spain, my roommates, hearing and speaking Spanish and so much more! Even though I have heard a ton of Spanish since I have been home it is definitely different. It’s so true, we always want what we don’t have. The things that would frustrate me such as always having to take the metro, wanting to express myself in English, or wanting different types of food are the things that I am missing.
I know that God has me at my mom’s house in Ventura County for a reason this summer. I have already really enjoyed seeing all my family members and have gotten to spend quality time with my brother. Coming back has also been a reality check with what really has been going on here. It has been very overwhelming. I have also gotten to see several of my close friends in San Diego and San Francisco. It has been great seeing all my friends and seeing familiar faces, but again overwhelming.
More than ever I don’t feel like I fit in, in one particular place. I am more confused than ever about what I want to do with my life and where I want to go. I know I feel this way because I realize there are so many more possibilities/ opportunties out there. I am amazed and thankful that I was able to live in Madrid. I now have an unbelievable desire to travel more and to live abroad again. Even while I get back into my routine here again I know it will be different. I will continue to live life to the fullest and I know God will show me where to go.

Time of my life
May 31, 2008 by studenttravelerI wonder what it would be like if we all had a soundtrack to our lives. Sometimes I think of that as I am listening to my ipod whether I am walking on the campus of San Diego State, sitting on the metro, or flying. Well, I think I know what my song would be for my last week in Madrid. It was like a perfectly scripted movie, I stepped out of Antonio de Nebrija for the last time, put my headphones on, turned on my ipod to shuffle and as I walked away my song came on…Green Day’s Time of Your Life. As I walked away I soaked it all in. The school building, the park, the neighborhood, and the song….
Another turning point;
a fork stuck in the road.
Time grabs you by the wrist;
directs you where to go.
So make the best of this test
and don’t ask why.
It’s not a question
but a lesson learned in time.
It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
So take the photographs
and still frames in your mind.
Hang it on a shelf
In good health and good time.
Tattoos of memories
and dead skin on trial.
For what it’s worth,
it was worth all the while.
It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It’s something unpredictable
but in the end it’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life
I definitely got emotional just thinking of all I have done, seen, the people I have met, the places I have gone, what I have learned and how my dream was fulfilled.
